The foundation
Stiftelsen Kulturcentrum Järna was established in 1965 under the name Stiftelsen Rudolf Steinerseminariet. It has no owners and exists for its purpose.
The purpose
The foundation is to give people, and young people in particular, the opportunity to study freely and in depth, grounded in anthroposophy’s view of the human being and the world.
The work is to be rooted in the Nordic countries and build on the cultural conditions found here. According to the statutes, this is done in collaboration with the Goetheanum in Switzerland, the international centre of anthroposophy.
The purpose has been the same since 22 March 1965, when Oskar Hansen, Arne Klingborg, Helmer Knutar, Åke Kumlander, Rut Nilsson and Jörgen Smit signed the deed of foundation in Järna. The statutes say that it may not be changed, and that is part of its strength. The forms have shifted over the decades, but the task is constant: to create a place where people can educate themselves, with head, heart and hands alike. In this way we carry forward what generations of teachers, students, artists and staff have built up here.
How we put it into practice today
The purpose was written for a free institution of higher education. In our time it takes several forms that hang together:
- Education, today through the Waldorf Early Childhood Training and with more programmes in development.
- Care and social therapy, where the foundation’s own work is being built up.
- Culture, where art is a path to knowledge and not merely decoration.
- Land and nature, where the work with the park and the garden becomes part of learning.
Governance
The foundation is led by a board. It manages the foundation’s funds and makes sure they are used for the purpose. The foundation is under the supervision of the County Administrative Board of Stockholm.
