Culture on site

Concerts, theatre, eurythmy, talks and guided tours. Ytterjärna is one of Sweden’s most distinctive cultural environments, and it is meant to be used.

Kulturhuset

At the centre of the area stands Kulturhuset, the culture house, designed by Erik Asmussen and inaugurated in 1992. It is built as a total work of art, in which architecture, colour, light and acoustics work together.

Concerts, theatre and eurythmy are held in Stora salen, the large hall, which has room for 500 people, a painted ceiling and coloured glass windows. The building is the most monumental expression of the ideas that have shaped the place since the 1960s.

A stage for more people

We want more people to be able to organise events and perform in Kulturhuset.

One of those who organise events here is Kulturhuset i Ytterjärna, one of the oldest organisations on site, with the building as its home stage. We want to broaden the programme further, with more organisers, more artists and more kinds of evenings. The foundation can also act as an organiser itself.

Would you like to put on a concert, a performance or something else on the stage? Get in touch and we will talk about how it could work.

Guided tours

Would you like to know more about the thinking behind the place? Groups can book a guided tour all year round, in Swedish or English.

  • Overview tour

A short introduction to the place, with an overview of Kulturhuset, the architecture and the park.

  • The extended tour

Deeper into the thinking behind the place: the purification ponds, the water cascades and the villa where it all began.

  • Trädgårdsparken

Biodynamic cultivation, the greenhouse, the rose gardens and the orchards, with the park’s gardeners.

  • On request

The architecture, the large hall, anthroposophy or a part of the garden, in the form that suits your group.

Walking on your own

The park and the area are open to anyone who would like to take a walk. Signposted walking trails start from Kulturcentrum Järna and lead on into the cultural landscape of Sörmland, past farms, woodland and water.

Feel free to bring a flask. There are plenty of benches to stop at.
